How To Upgrade The Amazon EC2 Speed And Storage
I have been using the Free Amazon EC2 VPS service which was recommended by the Mass Planner team. The service was what could be expected for free. However, after discovering a few changes which could be made to the Amazon EC2 VPS service I have decided to give it another try…
As I said I’ve been using the Amazon EC2 VPS for over a year now and one of the main things that I found to be a problem was the speed in which the system ran. The Free Tier EC2 service is setup with the t2.micro environment. This service proved to be not efficient for using Mass Planner. Since Mass Planner needs to constantly send data back and forth the t2.micro environment gets bogged down and when trying to do normal windows actions or Mass Planner adjustments the system seems to freeze. Upgrading from the t2.micro EC2 environment to the m3.medium environment has made a huge difference in the performance of Mass Planner and windows. It feels a bit like a new computer.
The next thing I did to improve the performance of the Amazon EC2 VPS was to add an additional storage volume. The Free Tier EC2 service comes with 30gib of storage which is quickly absorbed once Mass Planner is installed and a few campaigns with content are configured. Amazon allows users to increase the storage volumes by creating or attaching volumes to existing instances. I added an additional 100gib of storage to the EC2 VPS instance and now have 130gib total storage.
The system now runs much better. I am in the process of transferring my local copy of Mass Planner to the Amazon EC2 VPS. Once everything is configured and running I will report back with any useful information such as incurred costs, performance, and any other nuggets of knowledge I can pass on.
As I have mentioned in the attached video there is the possibility of charges being assessed to your account as a result of making these changes. I recommend downloading the AWS Console Management app for either iPhone or Android. With the app you can not only monitor billing, but also perform minor tasks such as starting and restarting the EC2 service, which can be very useful.

Can you let us know cost details! Also in the tutorial, you said the ip changes when we change processor. Is this remove all MassPlanner data?
Hi Sebin,
Thanks for the message. I will update the content with costs once I receive a bill from Amazon. I have setup the new configurations, but still need to move update Mass Planner on the VPS with my content and begin using that install. Currently I am using an old laptop to perform Mass Planner tasks.
You will not lose data doing this. Changing the IP address is done when you stop and then restart the VPS service. The changes made will increase usage speed when changing from the t2.micro service to the m3.medium service and storage space when adding the additional volume. There are no changes made to the operating system so there’s no risk of losing data. If you are concerned do a backup of your files before making these changes.
